La bande de Lucien Favre peut maintenant préparer la prochaine saison de la coupe des champions. En esperant qu'elle se qualifiera pour la phase de poules.

Milan - 7e ciel
AC Milan beat Liverpool 2-1 with two goals from Filippo Inzaghi to win the European Cup for the seventh time on Wednesday and avenge their defeat on penalties by the English team in the final two years ago.
Liverpool, who looked down and out, pulled a goal back in the 89th minute with a Dirk Kuyt header but could not repeat their famous Istanbul fight-back when they recovered from 3-0 down at halftime to force a 3-3 draw and win the trophy.
Milan coach Carlo Ancelotti, who has now guided Milan to two victories as coach after winning the European Cup with them as a player, said: "This is the greatest victory we have ever had.
"Few people thought we could do it and I think it is an extraordinary thing. It has been described as a Utopia and it shows that sometimes Utopia can become real."
The Italians took the lead against the run of play just before halftime when Inzaghi got in the way of Andrea Pirlo's free kick to divert the ball past helpless keeper Pepe Reina.
He added the second in the 82nd minute when he rounded Reina and squeezed the ball home under his body after being played in by Kaka. It was his 42nd goal in 69 Champions League appearances.
Dutchman Kuyt gave Liverpool some hope just before the end with a powerful header into the net after Daniel Agger had headed the ball across the area from a corner.
Liverpool coach Rafael Benitez said: "We almost controlled everything, we were nearly there. We had chances in the first half but you need to take your chances and score goals.
"We controlled the game for most of the first half and it was a bad goal to concede -- a deflection at the end of the half. We were doing well until then."
Still beautifulDespite Liverpool having had more of the ball and more goal attempts, it was Milan's fans celebrating loudest after seeing their 38-year-old captain Paulo Maldini lift the trophy.
It was the defender's record-equalling eighth final and the fifth European Cup success of his career.
"The fifth is still beautiful," Maldini told reporters. "It would be a great way end to my career but I want to play next season and then it would be very beautiful to reach this point again next year and win it again.
"It was a very tough match but we won it and after what happened two years ago this is what matters."

L'Espagne confirme, L'Angleterre stagne
Avec trois équipes en demi-finales, on attendait une finale de la Champions League 100% anglaise. Pourtant le Milan AC a fait démentir les pronostics.
En écrasant Manchester United 3 à 0, Milan a vengé l'AS Roma qui au tour précedent avait été écrasé par Man U sur le score sans appel de 7 à 1 (voir http://footeur.blogspot.com/2007/04/impressionnant.html).
Milan qui n'a pas fait un parcours extraordinaire (voir http://footeur.blogspot.com/2007/04/milan-nest-pas-au-mieux.html) a su se resaisir au moment le plus important. Milan est l'équipe italienne taillée pour la Ligue des champions. Elle participe à sa troisième finale en 5 ans.
Liverpool a du aller jusqu'aux tirs-aux-buts pour éliminer Chelsea. Avec 600 millions d'euros investis en 3 ans, le milliardaire Abramovich (propriétaire de Chelsea FC) n'aura toujours pas de couronne européenne à exhiber.
La finale opposera donc le 23 mai à Athènes le Milan AC contre le FC Liverpool pour ce qui sera la revanche de la finale de 2005 (remporté aux tirs-aux-buts par Liverpool après avoir été mené 3 à 0).
Les Espagnols, eux, ont réussi le pari d'obtenir une finale 100% espagnole (ayant placé trois équipes en demi-finales). Les catalans de l'Espanyol de Barcelona ont éliminé les Allemands du Werder de Brême.

EURO 2012 en Pologne et en Ukraine
Michel Platini (nouveau président de l'UEFA) remercie ceux qui l'ont porté au pouvoir.
Tous les pronostics donnaient l'Italie victorieuse dans la course à l'organisation de l'Euro 2012. C'est pourtant la candidature polono-ukrainienne qui a remporté la mise bien qu'elle offre moins de garanties, sur le papier, que celle présentée par les Transalpins. En effet, les deux nations ne disposent pas encore de toutes les infrastructures indispensables, notamment en matière de transports, au bon déroulement d'un tel événement. Ni la Pologne, ni l'Ukraine n'ont encore organisé la moindre compétition majeure malgré leur tradition footballistique. On peut légitimement voir derrière ce choix de l'instance européenne la patte de Michel Platini, qui s'était présenté comme le candidat des "petits pays" à l'élection de l'UEFA en janvier dernier.
En attendant la période des grands travaux, les stades prévus pour accueillir les rencontres ont déjà été choisis. En Pologne, les matches se dérouleront à Gdansk, Poznan, Varsovie et Wroclaw et en Ukraine à Dniepropetrovsk, Donetsk, Kiev et Lvov. Le choix de ces enceintes posent d'ores et déjà le problème de l'éloignement entre les différentes aires de jeu. La Pologne, pour qui c'était la première candidature, devra également régler rapidement ses problèmes de corruption dans le football afin de ne pas se décrédibiliser sur le plan international.

Impressionnant !!!
C'était un quart de finale retour de Ligue des champions...et Manchester United l'a emporté à domicile face à l'AS Roma (7-1) ! Les joueurs d'Alex Ferguson, qui comptaient un but de retard après le match aller, ont ouvert le score par Michael Carrick (11e), puis ont mené 3-0 à la 18e, 4-0 à la pause... Carrick a réalisé un doublé, tout comme Cristiano Ronaldo. Patrice Evra a marqué le dernier but des Mancuniens. Incroyable.

La France mise sur les jeunes
Raymond Domenech a retrouvé sa voix d'entraîneur national impliqué dans la post-formation, jeudi, pour évaluer devant la presse la performance de sa jeune équipe de France contre l'Autriche (1-0). Chose rarissime, la France a marqué par Benzéma, âgé de 19 ans, servi par Nasri, 19 ans aussi, et le milieu de terrain titulaire comptait deux joueurs de 22 ans (L. Diarra et Diaby) et un ancien de 23 ans, Rio Mavuba. Si Domenech a répété qu'il ne se posait pas la question de l'âge des joueurs qu'il aligne - «ils ont 19 ans, mais Pelé à 16 ans était bien champion du monde avec le Brésil : quand on a du talent, il faut l'exprimer» - l'ancien sélectionneur des Espoirs a comparé la performance de sa jeune équipe à un simple premier pas.
«C'était un match amical, a d'abord fait remarquer le sélectionneur. Il faudra les revoir quand il y a des points importants à la clé, avec le couteau sous la gorge, dans un contexte décisif. Mais au moins, c'est bien de ne pas avoir raté l'ouverture. Pour la suite, il faut encore lutter, combattre». Et protéger cette jeune génération qui éclot. «Je ne veux pas faire avec ces jeunes ce qu'ont fait d'autres générations avant eux, qui croyaient manger tout le monde et ont sombré en se croyant arrivé trop vite. Mais il savent qu'il faudra travailler, c'est un avantage. On pourrait dire que je ne leur rend pas service s'ils prenaient la grosse tête. Mais je ne serais pas entièrement responsable, ils ne pourraient s'en prendre qu'à eux-mêmes. Ils doivent savoir que ce n'est pas parce qu'ils ont fait ça que leur place est garantie pour le prochain match.»
« Bien jouer ne suffit pas »
Sur le contenu du match, Raymond Domenech regrette notamment que l'équipe n'ait pas cherché (ou ne soit pas parvenue) à être plus efficace. «Il y a des petits regrets dans la concrétisation. Bien jouer, ça ne suffit pas. C'est nécessaire, agréable, mais il faut marquer, il faut être plus ''tueur'' et pas jouer pour jouer. Mercredi, on s'est fait plaisir, mais ce n'est pas suffisant, ni pour moi ni pour les joueurs.» Les deux prochains matches, contre l'Ukraine et la Géorgie, seront notamment des épreuves plus décisives. Sans que cela ait forcément un rapport de cause à effet, Raymond Domenech a aussi indiqué qu'il allait être obligé de sortir de son équipe-type habituelle, si tard dans la saison, pour privilégier les hommes en forme.
Son équipe-type habituelle était jusqu'ici la suivante : Coupet - Sagnol, Thuram, Gallas, Abidal - Makelele, Vieira - Ribéry, Malouda - Henry, Trezeguet ou Saha. Henry sera toujours absent en juin, comme il l'a confirmé à L'Equipe mercredi. Par ses deux grosses prestations, Anelka semble avoir gagné une place, à ses côtés ou en son absence. Sans affirmer que cette équipe-type appartient au passé, il y a parmi les dix autres joueurs trois Lyonnais pour lesquels le sélectionneur craint une «démobilisation», deux Anglais qui auront arrêté leur championnat depuis trois semaines, et Sagnol, qui aura achevé deux semaines plus tôt une saison entamée sans préparation. Au contraire, des joueurs comme Mexès ou Escudé seront alors en plein championnat. Neuf mois après la finale de la Coupe du monde, les Bleus ont gagné mercredi avec un seul joueur du 9 juillet titulaire au coup d'envoi, et ont remporté deux matches en alignant cinq joueurs qui n'avaient jamais été retenus auparavant. En somme : il y a désormais une grosse demi-douzaine de titulaires potentiels en plus. Sur le papier, ça change beaucoup de choses avant France - Ukraine.

World Cup can boost African renaissance
South Africans may be basking in the joy of hosting the 2010 World Cup, but we should not forget that this is a time for the whole continent to rejoice. The event provides all of Africa with the chance to open the eyes of the world to our rich potential -- that which will perhaps be the most important legacy of what has been described as "Africa's World Cup".
Indeed, it is hoped that the money generated, exposure given and awareness created from the tournament will provide a major boost to the beautiful game from Cape Town to Cairo.
We have seen some of the benefits at the recent African Union heads of state summit in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, when the Confederation of African Football (CAF), celebrating its 50th year, launched 2007 as the International Year of African Football -- a move backed by Fifa president Sepp Blatter, who was in attendance.
The idea is that national associations from around the continent get involved in football-related events in the build-up to 2010, and in doing so raise their profile in their own confederation, as well as in Fifa.
The term that is bandied about most often is "providing a legacy" to the African people. This is perhaps the first World Cup where the football on the field is almost secondary to the tangible change that hosting this tournament could have on the lives of people across the continent.
And while success on the field of play is important, we must hope too for success off it to provide that much-vaunted "legacy". The aim is to highlight social, health and community issues, to reinforce peace and nation building in the region, to add extra support for national leagues, to improve the training of African football executives and to promote the development of sports medicine in Africa.
Fifa also backed the commitment to making this a truly African event by offering a record six places at the tournament to teams from the continent. South Africa qualified automatically as hosts, with five further places up for grabs in a qualifying format that will mirror the one for the 2006 World Cup in Germany.
Aside from newfound expertise in sports administration, the tournament will also provide a massive financial boost for the maintenance and improvement of Fifa's "Goal" programme, which aims to assist financially underprivileged associations, providing headquarters, natural and artificial turf pitches, training and education centres, and other facilities essential to a basic infrastructure.
All of those assets are badly needed in just about every one of Africa's 53 national associations.
But perhaps the biggest benefit to the continent will be found in opening the eyes of a sceptical world to the ingenuity, enthusiasm and potential of the African people. Still, in this day and age, there is very little understanding around the globe of what makes our continent tick.
We need to advertise our potential, and only then will the plight of the average African improve. The 2010 World Cup, a tournament that will be watched by an estimated total viewership of six billion people in more than 200 countries, is the perfect vehicle to promote the continent. It should be treated like a giant four-week marketing campaign.
Perhaps Blatter said it best when he commented: "The World Cup to South Africa sends a message to the world that the football family trusts Africa. We are optimistic that football can make things smooth and Africa can be looked upon with respect rather than being patronised."
What a difference a little bit of respect would make to all of our lives.

Cameroon recall for Joseph Desire Job
France-based striker Joseph Desire Job has been recalled to the Cameroon national team after a five-year absence.The 28-year old, who plays for Ligue 1 side Sedan, was named in a 20-man squad to face Liberia in a Nations Cup qualifier in 24 March.
Job, who last played for the Indomitable Lions in the 2002 Nations Cup, is expected to begin training with the squad in Yaounde on 20 March.
Interim manager Jules Nyonga called the Sedan striker after he scoring seven goals in LIgue 1 so far this season.
Cameroon are top of Group 5 with six points from two games, leading Liberia and Equatorial Guinea, both on three points, and Rwanda who have yet to score a point.
Barcelona forward Samuel Eto'o is back in the squad, having returned to club action in February following a four-month absence due to a knee injury.
Hamburg defender Timothee Atouba also returns for the first time since since last year's African Nations Cup in Egypt.
Werder Bremen defender Pierre Wome was left out after failing to show for last month's friendly against Togo.
Wome has not played an international since he missed the October 2005 penalty that would have qualified the team for the 2006 World Cup in Germany.

Drogba enfin
L’attaquant du Chelsea FC Didier Drogba a été élu joueur africain 2006 devant Samuel Eto'o, couronné lors des trois précédentes années.
Une année pleine de succès
Lors d’une cérémonie à Accra (Ghana), Drogba, 28 ans, a reçu cette récompense pour la première fois après avoir mené la Côte d’Ivoire lors de la finale de la Coupe d’Afrique des nations 2006 en Egypte. Le pays a également atteint pour la première fois la phase finale de la Coupe du Monde de la FIFA en Allemagne et Drogba a remporté un second titre consécutif de Champion d'Angleterre avec le Chelsea FC.
Récompense pour Taiwo
Derrière le buteur international camerounais du FC Barcelona Samuel Eto'o, Michael Essien, le milieu de terrain de Chelsea et du Ghana, a obtenu la troisième place pour la seconde année consécutive dans le vote des 53 sélectionneurs africains. Deux autres récompenses ayant une importance en Europe ont été celle du meilleur jeune footballeur, décernée au défenseur de l’Olympique de Marseille Taye Taiwo (21 ans). L’entraîneur portugais Manuel José a reçu le prix du meilleur entraîneur pour son succès avec le club égyptien de Al-Ahly.

Platini marque le but le plus important de sa carrière
La frontière entre le bien et le mal
Michel Platini, grand compétiteur devant l'Eternel, a une fois de plus gagné - il y a des gens comme ça. Plus fort encore: tous les amoureux du football éprouvent l'agréable sentiment que cette victoire est aussi un peu la leur. Parce qu'on leur a expliqué que le Français, dont les géniaux coups de patte continuent à enchanter les mémoires, favoriserait la beauté et la moralité du jeu en détrônant ce vieux Suédois qui ne pense qu'à l'argent.
La vérité, à l'image de la frontière entre le bien et le mal, n'est sans doute pas aussi nette. «Platoche» et ses beaux discours méritent un crédit certain. Pour les gens du football d'en bas, qui ne caressent le pactole permanent que des yeux, il suscite même de l'espoir. S'il tient promesse, ce sera beau. Sinon, ce sera grave.
Fidèle compagnon de Sepp Blatter, patron du foot mondial en sa qualité de président de la FIFA, le nouveau boss de l'UEFA envisage «quelque chose de formidable» entre les deux instances suprêmes, jusqu'ici en bisbille. Cette réconciliation annoncée ne constitue, sur le papier, pas un mal. Dans les faits, on n'est pas sûr qu'elle représente un bien: la frontière est si ténue. Certains, comme le journaliste britannique Andrew Jennings, l'homme dont les sérieux travaux accusent Blatter de corrompre à tous vents, hurlent déjà à la catastrophe...
Michel Platini a rarement déçu sur un terrain. Il ne faudrait pas qu'il s'y mette dans un bureau. Avant le verdict, il évoquait son «testament footballistique» en cas de défaite. Sa victoire ressemble à un acte de naissance. On espère qu'il n'y a pas eu erreur sur le choix du parrain.

Barca wins
Barça needed a win in Sofia to keep their hopes of retaining the Champions League alive. But the three points never really looked in doubt, and goals from Iniesta and Giuly, one in each half, sealed an important victory.
As it turned out, Werder Bremen beat Chelsea in the other game, meaning that anything but a win against Levski Sofia would have relegated Barça to the UEFA Cup. And the pressure was certainly on in the second half, when an equaliser from the home side would have really put Barça in trouble. But the Blaugrana kept their heads and got the job done in emphatic style, and now need to beat the Bundesliga leaders at the Camp Nou on December 5 to secure passage to the next round.
Action from the start
Levski were desperate to finally give their fans something to celebrate, and Barça knew how important it was to get an early goal in. So the game got off to a hectic start, with two chances falling for either side, and Barcelona eventually taking the initiative with an early Giuly goal. Deco shot just wide in the first attack of the game, and shortly after Yovov dodged past Zambrotta but put his effort into the side netting. Then the Bulgarian was unable to properly clear a Zambrotta cross, and Giuly was there to blast the ball home from the middle of the penalty area. The early setback only silenced the Vassilevski stadium for a few moments. The goal only made the home side keener than ever to make an impression, and centre backs Márquez and Puyol were on fine form in breaking down a series of onslaughts on the Barcelona goal.
Lots of space
Levski have a huge pitch, and that meant plenty of space for building up attacking moves, but the Bulgarians tended to use their hearts more than their heads, while Barça had the advantage of two excellent playmakers in Iniesta and Deco, who started frustrating the home side with their obvious superiority. Barça started using the wings, with Sylvinho making several runs down the left supported by Ronaldinho, whenever he could break free from the tight man marking that was making it hard for him to get involved. The first real warning to the Barça defence came when Borimirov's strike from outside the area only went inches wide of Valdés' goal. Sylvinho responded with a chance of his own, then Márquez came close from a corner and Ronaldinho worked his way into the area to slip a pass to Gudjohnsen, whose effort was intercepted by the Bulgarian defence.
Looking to finish the job
Barça could not afford to relax, knowing they needed a second goal as insurance against the possibility of a surprise Levski equaliser. But it took a long time in coming. Gudjohnsen and Giuly both had clear chances shortly after the break. The Icelander's shot went wide, but moments later he was through on goal again only to be brilliantly tackled. But the ball only went as far as Giuly, who saw goalkeeper Petkov turn his effort behind for a corner. It was time for changes. Rijkaard sent Xavi on for Giuly, and then Márquez asked to be taken off with an injured foot to be replaced by Oleguer. Seconds after the change, Petkov was unable to hold on to a 65th minute Deco strike, and Iniesta was at hand to send the ball into the back of the net and make it 2-0 and as good as game over.
Control
With Xavi, Deco, and Iniesta in midfield, none of which are precisely the tallest of players, the rest of the game was always going to be case of playing the ball on the ground and keeping possession against a Levski side that had lost its will and played some frankly sloppy football. Ronaldinho and Guddy continued to create half chances, but the last twenty minutes were more a question of letting the minutes tick by, safe in the knowledge that three important points had been won on a cold night in Bulgaria. But tonight was only half of the story. In two week's time Barcelona will entertain Werder Bremen, and once again, nothing but a win will suffice.

Le FCB doit gagner
Barcelone joue ce mercredi 22 novembre contre Levski Sofia en Bulgarie. 3e de leur groupe avec 5 points en 4 matchs, le Barca a grillé tous ses jockers.
Pour passer en 8e de finale de la Ligue des Champions, Barca est obligé de gagner ses deux prochains matchs. L'objectif est réalisable, malgré les absences de Messi, Eto'o et Saviola: tous sur blessure.
